Thank you Jodie you kind words mean alot. We have been through so much as a family and it has made us closer and stronger as a result.
I can only apologise for the pain and suffering my illness caused you. I also want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for being there for me when I wasn't able to be there for myself. I will always be eternally grateful for that. You never gave up on me.
I am so pleased (and very proud) I have my beautiful daughters (even though you used to play quick on the draw just to take the micky out of my drawings look at them now!!)
I love you so much and I am so glad I can make you proud and be a role model, that's what mums are supposed to be. I intend to keep it that way.
Love you Angel xxxx

Some of these paintings are truly stunning and I consider myself lucky to be the owner of one of them. You've found a true talent there and you should be extremely proud of yourself - because we are :) x

Well Marc what can I say about you. You have been my rock, my Knight in shining armour the glue that held my life in place when it crumbled apart. No one should have to go through what happened to my family, most men would have walked away a long time ago. You are different. You stood by and held me up. You dragged me along the worst road of my life.
You really are special for putting up with something that you could have easily walked away from. I am so glad you didn't.
You have encouraged and supported my artistic flare even having my very first picture framed and on your wall. You have always listened when times have been bad and smiled when there was the odd hint of hope.
I can only imagine what it must have been like you. I truly am sorry for that.
I have changed in so many ways. I am more confident and much much happier. I have totally transformed my life and with your support become a much better stronger person.
It's onwards and upwards now. When you have been as low as where I have been there can be no more rock bottom.
Thank you so very much for putting up with me and listening to me, wiping my tears and hugging me when I really needed it.
Your my guardian Angel and I wouldn't be without you xxx

Thank you so much for your kind words Paul, I share my story to inspire others at all different levels. People can somehow relate with something that I have been through and can see things from a different perspective. I want the system to change so much and get creativity mainstreamed so that everyone can have the benefit if they so wish. We are all on a journey and as I have had such a wild journey its nice to be able to tell people that there is hope. I do hope that you are enjoying your journey, keep looking at my silver lining picture if things get tough. Debs x

WOW! What an impressive website Debs. The way you have used your experiences and turned them on their head shows hope for the possibilities in life that can occur for any of us when we least expect it.
I really admire your courage in being so candid and sharing your experiences in such a skilful and compassionate manner.
...And then there are the paintings. I knew from hearing you speak & reading tweets etc. that you were seriously into painting. You forgot to mention how good you were at it! I mean they're really very good!!! WOW!

Not bad to say I had never done any art until just over 2 years ago is it? All this talent and I never knew!!! Just shows you how, when you are steered in the right direction, you can achieve the impossible. I never dreamt I would be where i am now. I didn't even think it was possible! It is and its now my new life. I am so different to the person that walked through the doors to the artworks. I really appreciate your kind words, thank you.

Thank you very much. It seems to work and I'm loving the freedom of painting. I'm still not convinced many of my artworks are 'right' but I'm loving experiment of trying. I finally feel like I'm moving along the right path now. It's taken a while but it's so refreshing to see things in a different way. I hope you too continue along your journey with as much joy as I have found.

I love the range of your work, materials, mediums and the colour of everything you do. You combine simplicity and beauty but yet can produce work that is haunting and imaginative. I hope I get half this good! Art Therapy did similar things for me and I am helping to spread the word!

Always knew Art could be Therapeutic, but couldn't believe how prolific you've been. Some of your paintings would make great greetings cards! Particularly one of Rocky which reminds me of my son's dog that died young last year! Also the Red Mist ones that re-mind us we need to find another outlet for Anger. When are you going to do an Exhibition in Manchester? Am sure the Lowry would be interested in your work and your story. We also have Touchstones in Rochdale which has a gallery and a museum which may inspire you further? Local papers may also like your story to help others with mental health difficulties. Let me know if you decide to travel North as you can inspire so many. Thanks! J.S.

Hi Julia

Thank you for your lovely comments about my work. I would love to come and exhibit but am not sure how you go about it as others have always contacted me about exhibiting. I will look into it when I get some free time. I am just getting ready to go to London to Canary Wharf to exhibit 10 of my pieces there.

I never knew art would be this creative, but to me it is much more than that. It has been a life saver. Im a different person to the one that started the drawing class 3 years ago. Im achieving things I never thought possible. But now I think anything is possible, you just have to grab opportunities and go for it.

I have been in a few papers and magazines already but am always willing to try inspire others with my journey.

Good luck with your journey xx

Hi Debs, I absolutely love your art. And I was inspired by your story too. I think I found the link to your site on NSUN's bulletin. I used to run a user-led mental health charity in Rochdale called RBUF (see their website). But I live in Herefordshire now. What do you charge for your paintings?

Hello Debs,

It's Marisa here, Barry's wife, we had a chat today at the Open Studio day. I just wanted to say thank you for sharing your story. I'd be very proud if I were you. I've read a little, on your website, about your day at the Queen's Palace. You set the scene perfectly. I think you've probably got good foundational skills as a novelist, you're good with words! Well, best wishes to you. Here's hoping the best is yet to come for you. Much love, Marisa xx

Hi Debbie I have just been looking at all your works they are really good and you should be extremely proud. Your journey is truly inspirational and your words will be a comfort to others finding themselves in a dark place, that there is a path out there for them to move forward and if they are open to it, it will find them. I myself have been touched by the 'Deb Effect ' this week to push my own boundaries in life as I have struggled for many years with lack of confidence . It was great meeting you this week. Mandy

Dear Debbie thank you so much for writing the article in the Guardian which I found very inspiring and moving. I too have mental health issues and have been attending an art course which I have found so therapeutic and rewarding. Art gives you a release and a channel to express yourself. The process of art is enjoyable in itself. Congratulations on your amazing journey to a meds free existence, stay well and keep painting!
